Helena is an ecologist and a biologist who works on interdisciplinary projects to understand biodiversity
change. Her scientific areas of expertise are: Ecology; Mediterranean Ecosystems; Forest and Agriculture;
Ecology and Management of exotic and invasive species; Conservation of Nature, Biodiversity; Diversity
of Plants and Fungi; Environmental policy; Ecology and Society..
She is the Coordinator of the Center for Functional Ecology – Science for People & the Planet, which has
developed several projects involving biosphere reserves, including engaging all 12 Portuguese biosphere
reserve managers and representatives in participatory workshops.
